Most silver certificates are worth only a small premium over their actual face value. For example, the common 1935 and 1957 certificates would sell for $1.25 to $1.50 in average circulated condition.  A note of this type in uncirculated condition would fetch a bit more, perhaps $2.00 to $4.00.

The price of good quality, lightweight metal detectors have been going down in recent years.  You can find them at Sears, for goodness’ sakes.  A basic metal detector will cost you less than $200.  You can always add on bits and pieces from treasure hunting supply stores (usually found online) and from online auction sites like eBay.  It’s good to get a taste of the hobby before making a big financial commitment.

Collecting is a fun hobby, and one of the most interesting things to
collect are art collectibles.  Many different items can be painted with
artwork and become an art collectible.  Hobby enthusiasts collect such
things as saw blades, and wooden eggs which have had artwork painted
on.  People even collect designer rugs as art.  Another art collectible
hobby is collecting limited edition plates, thimbles, Christmas
ornaments, and figurines produced by such companies as Bradford
Exchange.  And of course, many people collect fine art paintings.
